WHAT IS LASER SKIN RESURFACING?

The Fractional CO2 laser is indicated for advanced treatment options for patients seeing deeper rejuvenation without surgery.

Fractional photothermolysis is an innovation in CO2 laser technology. The technology offers results approaching those of traditional CO2 laser resurfacing, but with complete recovery in only a few days. Fractional laser skin resurfacing is setting a new standard for resurfacing and has become the treatment of choice for reversing the effects of aging on the skin.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR FRACTIONAL LASER CO2 RESURFACING?

If you want to improve the appearance of your skin, then laser skin resurfacing may be right for you. Darker complexion skin may be treated with laser, but the risk of skin hyperpigmentation (darkening) after laser is higher.

You may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing if you want to treat age spots, sun-damaged skin, uneven skin pigmentation, facial lines, and wrinkles. The treatment is also suitable for warts, scars from birthmarks, and enlarged oil glands on the nose.

However, you may not be suitable for the procedure if you have very dark skin, active acne, excessively sagging skin, or deep wrinkles. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or for patients with a weakened immune system.

YOUR LASER SKIN RESURFACING CONSULTATION

When you consult with Dr. Glavas, he will ask about the skin problems you want to address. He will recommend a customized laser skin resurfacing treatment plan depending on your issues, goals, skin type, and budget.

WHAT IS LASER SKIN RESURFACING LIKE?

Laser skin resurfacing can treat areas around the mouth, eyes, and forehead individually or the entire face. The procedure usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes for partial face treatment or up to two hours for the entire face.

The patient will be given local anesthesia for partial face treatment or general anesthesia for the full face. The skin on the target areas will be thoroughly cleaned. The handpiece will then be used to deliver laser energy to the treatment regions.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE?

Once the treatment session is complete, the areas will be bandaged. After 24 hours, those areas must be cleaned four to five times daily and covered in ointment to prevent scab formation. You may also be instructed to apply a cold compress for 15 minutes every hour or two within 48 hours post-treatment.

You may notice swelling after the laser skin resurfacing procedure. If so, you can take the prescribed steroids to manage it. Keep your head elevated when you sleep to reduce the swelling.

There may be some stinging or itching for up to 72 hours, and the skin may feel dry and may peel within five to seven days after the treatment.

It is critical to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin. Choose one with at least 7% zinc oxide content and SPF 30 or higher. Do not forget to moisturize your skin as directed.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING COST

The cost for Laser Skin Resurfacing will depend on several factors. The number of sessions will influence the final price, as will the severity of the cosmetic issues being addressed.
